Who is Eligible for NDIS?

To be eligible for our NDIS services, there are certain requirements an individual must meet. Here are the requirements for individuals needing NDIS support in Queensland, Australia.

Age

NDIS is available for those between the ages of seven and 65 years old. However, if your child is under the age of seven, there are early childhood support options available. These childhood support partners are funded by NDIS and increase the child’s ability to complete tasks on their own. If you are over the age of 65, you are not able to access NDIS support, but we can help you by identifying other support systems in Australia such as My Aged Care which helps older individuals with disabilities.

Residency

If you live in Australia, you are eligible for NDIS in QLD. This includes Australian citizens, permanent visa holders, and special category visas. If you are not a resident of Australia, there are other support systems you may be eligible to receive beyond NDIS.

Disability

NDIS support is available to individuals with a disability from a permanent impairment. To satisfy this requirement, evidence of your disability from the impairment is submitted. Impairments may include:

Cognitive- impacts how you learn new things, decision-making, and the ability to pay attention
Physical- moving your body or parts of your body
Intellectual- limits your speaking and listening ability, processing and remembering information, reading, and writing
Neurological- impacts functions of your body
Sensory- issues with seeing or hearing

You may qualify for NDIS support that helps with psychological disabilities. This may affect your ability to do daily tasks or activities because of your mental state. Your eligibility is not affected by what caused your impairment or if you have more than one. We do not provide support for your impairment. Our NDIS service providers help you overcome stressful household, transport, and daily tasks to build your confidence. Our goal is to assist participants and help them build the skills to complete tasks independently. Other NDIS support may include home modifications and assistive technology for the participant.

Evidence for NDIS Eligibility

When applying for NDIS funding, there must be evidence submitted with your application. The evidence must confirm your disability and how it impacts doing daily tasks in your life. Any documentation should be within the last year and from a doctor or specialist. Recent documentation has more value when determining your eligibility than older evidence. Early childhood support follows the same procedures as NDIS disability support.

Early Intervention

Early intervention is another factor for determining who is eligible for NDIS. The goal of early intervention is to decrease the amount of support you may need later in your life. Some participants may not be eligible for NDIS early intervention support depending on their impairment and needs.

How to Apply for NDIS in Queensland?

There are two ways you can apply for NDIS support. You can apply by calling the NDIS office or filling out the online application form. With your application, you must send proof of your age, citizenship, residency, and your disability. After sending in your application, we determine if you are eligible for NDIS support. Additional evidence may be needed to determine if NDIS support is right for you.

Creating Your Plan

After being accepted for NDIS disability support in QLD, Australia, your support coordinator hires a NDIS service provider. Your support coordinator looks at your current living situation, goals, needs, and other important information. These details them understand the level of support you need. In addition to establishing your needs they choose a service provider best equipped to manage your Queensland NDIS support funding.
